Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Malte Rieken studied medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich). After earning his medical degree in 2007, Malte Rieken pursued specialist training in urology at the University Hospital Basel. In 2013, he spent a research year in urologic oncology at the renowned Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, USA. He completed his postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation) and received authorisation to teach urology at the University of Basel in 2016. He then transferred to the Department of Urology at the Medical University of Vienna, where he served as a senior physician, before joining the team at alta uro in July 2017.

Malte Rieken is a Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU) and an active member of a number of urological societies and expert groups. His research and professional focus is on the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Rieken is member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines as well as the German guidelines for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement (DGU). Furthermore, Rieken is a member of the lower urinary tract working group of EAU section for urotechnology (ESUT).

Malte Rieken is an associate editor of the journal European Urology Focus. He has authored more than 250 scientific articles, conference papers and book chapters and his scientific work has been recognised with numerous national and international awards.
